I offer golf lessons for beginners and players of all abilities.
A golf lesson must have a purpose, that is, an objective or goal, to achieve positive results and improve the student’s golf game.
In order for the lesson to have meaning and for the student to leave with both an improved game and satisfaction in their achievement, the purpose of the lesson must focus on the student's needs.
As a coach I use focused observation and interviews to identify critical components of the student’s current performance.
This makes it possible to determine where and how changes should be made. Therefore, as your coach I must be adept at analyzing your instructional needs and setting clear, purposeful learning goals based on those needs.
This lesson presents the key information necessary for analyzing student learning needs and setting appropriate goals.
Beginner golf lessons As a beginner, you are going to be subject to quite a few words of advice. Some of these will be great tips that will make you a better player, and some will overwhelm you.
Our focus will be on the following:
Stance
Setup
Posture
Basic swing mechanics
Although these all seem like they are relatively straightforward, they are not, and they cannot be achieved and mastered in a few minutes’ time. Even the professionals work on their stance, setup, and posture more than any part of their golf game.
Intermediate golf lessons Intermediate players are competent golfers who have handicaps. They have a general idea of where they need to improve to score better on the course.
These players will be given a player profile to complete. For me as a coach, these lessons are more about good two-way communication based on their needs from the written profile and my observations.
Though there are other things like correct equipment, course management, and temperament, observing your golf swings is paramount to determine what information is most helpful to a particular student. This information represents the main points and relevant cues that form the foundation of the lesson. If I can identify this information quickly, then I can dedicate more of the lesson to activities and instruction.
Low handicap lessons Most of the time, working with lower handicap players is about consistency. Trying to get them to do the same thing and thinking the same way.
Concentration or focus One of the best ways to help players concentrate on the course is by being consistent. It's something that just we crave, so by having a routine that gives you consistency, it puts you in a comfortable zone.
I want my players to have a consistent routine that is the same amount of time, that you do the same behaviors and you have the same thoughts for each shot in every situation.
Yes, there will be a player profile to look at the swing, but at this stage it is more about how much you want it, how much time can you dedicate to achieving it. This is about training your mind.
